Week of April 13-17, 2015!

Happy Friday! This week was our last week before spring break! We are all very excited for a little R&R! Here is what we were up to:

This week was all about storms! More specifically, wind storms, hurricanes, tornadoes and thunder storms.  We began the week with a discussion comparing hurricanes and tornadoes.  The children learned that a tornado has a shape, it is referred to as a "dirty storm" and begins in the sky (not on the ground like many of us think).  Hurricanes, on the other hand, start over the ocean and bring strong winds and flooding.  

Of course, weather being lots of cool experiments and activities! On tornado days, the children created stormy spin art and manipulated a tornado tube to make a mini twister.  On hurricane days, the children created pin wheels experimented with an electric fan and straws to blow object of various weights across a table.  The children discovered that with higher wind speeds, heavier objects could be moved and lighter objects could be blown very far with just a little bit of wind.  We also experimented with sun printing paper after lunch one day. What's coming up:
Since next week is spring break, lots of rest and relaxation is in order for all! When we are back in action on the 27th, the children will wrap-up weather studies with clouds and rainbows!

Friendly Reminders:
- School will be closed for spring recess from April 20-24th.  We will reopen on Monday, April 27th.

- Please return your unwanted school pictures as soon as possible! The final day to return them is Friday, May 1st.

- Playground clean-up day is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of May 16th (weather permitting).  Save the date!

- Tuition is due on Friday, May 1st.

- School will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25th.
